After years working in fashion and living in Sydney’s bustling CBD, Danni Jackson decided she wanted to slow down and find a home where she could relax and unwind after long, tiring days in the city. In the harbour side suburb of Rose Bay she found this two-bedroom apartment. It’s warm timbers, high ceilings and natural light captivated her immediately.

Faced with the challenges of living in a leased apartment, Danni focused on unique furnishings and an abundance of plants to add to the space’s character and make it her own. The generous sunroom adjoining the bedroom and lounge was a major draw card when deciding to move in. The large semicircle window set in the white brick wall introduces light and life to the whole apartment. Filled with relaxed textiles and textured wood, Danni says it's is the room that grounds her and gives her the most comfort. “The sunroom is where I go to unwind, where I listen to music and where I am most inspired."

"I wanted to come home to a space where I felt
creative, nostalgic and inspired."

When furnishing the space Danni drew inspiration from tree houses, using natural materials where possible.  “I’ve always had this dream of living in a tree house surrounded by nature,” Danni says. “I love wood; I find it therapeutic and calming."  Wooden pallets have been used to create Danni's bed, as well as small bookshelves and tables throughout the house. “Old crates are great, the slots can hold books and make for great plant holders," she says. "The daybed in the sunroom is held up by wooden pallets as well. I love recycling things and giving them a new use.”

Nature and nostalgia play a huge role in the home's allure. The whole apartment is adorned with keepsakes and mementos from travels abroad, every item looking as though it has it's own story. The result is an unpretentious home that seems effortlessly thrown together. “Nearly everything here reflects a place, time or precious memory in my life," Danni says. The retro sofa was an eBay purchase from a farm about an hour out of the city. “I was looking for something unique,” she says. “I wanted a couch that looked as though it had lived a previous life.  I don’t think I could ever let go of that sofa.”  When asked if she has any regrets making the lifestyle change from the busy inner-city to the suburbs Danni says she has none, “I feel like the apartment came to me at just the right time.”
